Week 1: ESJ vs Patterson

The Wildcats defeated Patterson 38-33 in the season opener. ESJ runningback Reynaldo Young rushed for 230 yards on a 16 carries and scored twice.  Kalen Henderson rushed for 125 yards and three touchdowns. ESJ wide receiver Dahquille Williams made a nice catch in the back of the endzone for a touchdown.  

Patterson took control in the second quarter and jumped out to a 27-14 lead. Patterson quarterback Nick Nolan was 5 of 7 passing for 102 yards in the first half. Lumberjacks runningback Kenny Hilliard rushed for 217 yards and four touchdowns. Nolan did not return in the second half due to a concussion. Hilliard suffered from leg cramps and was not a threat in the second half.

ESJ began to roll in the second half and took a 38-27 lead late in the third quarter. Patterson rallied in the final minutes and scored a 70 yard touchdown on a pass to Josh Jones. The Lumberjacks missed the extra point attempt but recovered an onside kick at the Wildcats 21 yard line with 2 minutes remaining. ESJ’s defense held strong and prevented a fourth down pass from the 19 yard line with 1:26 remaining in the game.
